Q Does My company year end have to be in December?
A It depends on your's companies legal classification. If it is a sole proprietorship or partnership than the year end is Dec 31 to coincide with individual filings. However if it is incorporated the year end can be anytime within the first 13 months. Q Do I need to register for a payroll source deduction account? A Only if you intened to have employees and need to submit deductions. Q Do I need to register a business name or can I operate under my personal name? A You can operate under your personal name. Be aware that a business name might make your company's image a little more professional. The decision to incorporate could help reduce taxes when the company is profiatable and reduce the owners liability should the company fail. Q What are the options I have in picking the company name? A I am assuming as it relates to owners liability? If a company is registered as a sole proprietor or partnership and is not incorporated that means the principals are responsible jointly with the company for any unpaid debts, contracts or legal action. However by incorporating the firm the company is soley responsible. The owner is only responsible if they cosign for the company. Some government payments like source deductions and GST have special charters which can hold the principals or directors accountable even if incorporated.
